Some of the strongest club teams from around the globe will gather in the United States this summer. An expanded FIFA Club World Cup schedule will see 32 teams battle it out for the trophy which will be handed out when the final takes place in New Jersey on Sunday July 13th 2025.
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are the two Spanish clubs taking part, but Barcelona will not play at this edition of the Club World Cup due to their poor performance in European football over the past few years.
According to the latest soccer Betway odds, Los Blancos are the joint favourites to win the tournament, along with Manchester City. PSG, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan will also lead a strong European challenge.
Group | Team 1 | Team 2 | Team 3 | Team 4 |
A | Palmeiras | Porto | Al Ahly | Inter Miami |
B | Paris Saint-Germain | Atletico Madrid | Botafogo | Seattle Sounders |
C | Bayern Munich | Auckland City | Boca Juniors | Benfica |
D | Flamengo | Esperance de Tunis | Chelsea | TBD |
E | River Plate | Urawa Red Diamonds | Monterrey | Inter Milan |
F | Fluminense | Borussia Dortmund | Ulsan | Mamelodi Sundowns |
G | Manchester City | Wydad | Al Ain | Juventus |
H | Real Madrid | Al Hilal | Pachuca | Red Bull Salzburg |
The tournament will follow the same format as the most recent editions of the World Cup, with eight teams divided into four groups, and the top two progressing into the knockout stage.
Real Madrid are in Group H, along with Al Hilal, Pachuca and RB Salzburg, meanwhile Atletico Madrid are in a slightly tougher looking Group B with PSG, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders.
Despite the proximity of the tournament, we only know 31 of the 32 teams currently, after Club Leon of Mexico were removed for breaching rules on multi-club ownership. A replacement club will take their place in Group D.
One of many controversial aspects to this tournament was FIFA’s decision to award a place to Inter Miami, despite another club going on to win the 2024 MLS Cup. Leo Messi’s team will kick off the tournament at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium against Egyptian side Al Ahly on Friday June 14th.

One of the standout fixtures in the group stage sees Atletico Madrid take on PSG at the iconic Rose Bowl which hosted the 1994 World Cup final. Pasadena is one of 11 different 2025 Club World Cup host cities, with 12 stadiums being used for the tournament.
FIFA Club World Cup tickets remain quite easy to pick up for most group matches, so anyone hoping to catch some action in the United States shouldn’t struggle to get a seat for most of these games.

There’s just one rest day, before the knockout stage action commences on the weekend of June 28th/29th. We’ll have two games per day at this point and should they advance as runners-up in Group B, Atletico Madrid would play in the first round-of-16 game against the winners of Group A at Lincoln Financial Field. Win their group, and they’d be in action in Atlanta the following day.
The round-of-16 will conclude on Tuesday July 1st, with Real Madrid hoping to extend their schedule by winning their group and then taking on the runners-up in Group G, likely to be Man City or Juventus, in Miami on that day.

The tournament pauses for two days, before the quarter-finals kick off on Independence Day in the USA. If Real Madrid win their group and their round-of-16 tie, they’d be able to set up base in New Jersey for the remainder of the tournament, given all of their remaining games would be at MetLife Stadium, including the last of the quarter-finals on July 5th.
On the other side of the draw, potential quarter-final opponents for Atletico Madrid include the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Flamengo, Boca Juniors and Benfica.

The semi-final stage is where we see the first real deviation from the regular World Cup format, in that both of the last-four matches, as well as the final will all take place at MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and the New York Jets in the NFL.
This is the first point at which we could potentially get a Madrid derby. Real and Atletico, who also met in this season’s Champions League, could face off in the first semi-final were they to both finish as runners-up in their groups, or the second semi-final were they to both win their groups and continue to progress through the competition.

The 2025 Club World Cup winners will be crowned on Sunday July 13th when by far the longest ever edition of this tournament concludes.
Most things point towards a European winner, but there are some strong South American sides in the tournament too, including four Brazilian clubs and the big two from Buenos Aires – Boca and River.
Al Hilal are likely to be the strongest contenders from the other regions, while Inter Miami will be hoping that home advantage and the Messi factor can help propel them into the latter stages of the tournament.
