After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, once again the Garud Commando unit of the Indian Air Force is in the headlines. This is the same special force, which is prepared for the most dangerous missions of the country. Be it terrorism or natural disaster, Garud Commandos stand firm on every front by risking their lives. Let us know who these Garud Commandos are, how they become one, how much salary they get and how difficult is their training.

The Garud Commando Force was established in September 2004. Its objective was to protect the assets of the Air Force, especially when incidents of attacks on Air Force bases were increasing in the Kashmir Valley. This force is not only for fighting, but is also considered a master in missions like rescue, security and intelligence.

How is the recruitment of Garud Commandos done?

The selection for non-commissioned posts (Airmen) starts with the general recruitment process of the Air Force. It includes physical tests, interviews and psychological tests. Once you fail, you do not get a chance again. To become a commissioned officer, candidates have to pass the AFCAT exam. After this, they are given special training at the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad. This process strengthens leadership ability and strategic thinking.

Training of Garud Commandos

The training of Garud Commandos is very tough. It includes many modules like physical endurance, mental strength, weapons handling, sky diving, jungle warfare and urban operations. This training lasts for months and only those who remain mentally and physically in every situation are successful.

How much is the salary of Garud Commandos?

Garud Commandos are paid salary based on their work and risk. According to reports, their salary starts from around Rs 70 thousand. Also, the maximum salary is up to 2,50,000 per month, which depends on their rank and experience. Apart from this, they also get duty allowance, high risk allowance and special operation incentive.
