Numerous people are hurt after a Florida ferry strikes another vessel, according to the police

According to CBS News, a ferry carrying over 40 people crashed into another boat in Clearwater, Florida, on Saturday, injuring many persons.

As police and fire departments raced to the area, emergency personnel deemed the scenario a mass casualty event.

Six people were deemed “trauma alerts,” according to the Clearwater Police Department, and two of the most critically injured passengers were flown to a hospital for treatment. The exact number of injuries was not immediately made public by authorities.

Authorities said that a Clearwater Ferry and another boat left the site of the incident. The boat stopped on a sandbar just south of the Memorial Causeway bridge, and CBS News reported that all of the injured were on board.

All of the passengers, including the wounded, were safely evacuated off the ship, according to police confirmation.
The boat that departed the area was described as a recreational vehicle by the U.S. Coast Guard, but no more information was given.

According to CBS News, the event happened close to the Clearwater Memorial Causeway bridge, which links Clearwater to Clearwater Beach, a well-liked destination for both residents and visitors.

The search for the second vessel implicated in the collision is still ongoing.
