The Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh has launched a massive campaign on unlawful encroachments in the areas close to the India-Nepal border, destroying hundreds of unauthorized buildings, including unrecognized places of worship.

In border districts like Bahraich, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, and Balrampur, a massive effort was conducted to liberate important government land from illegal occupancy.

Areas within a 10- to 15-kilometer radius of the Nepali border were the focus of the special anti-encroachment operation, which was carried out between April 25 and April 27. Illegal buildings on public property, including some unregistered religious institutions, have long proliferated in these areas.

According to authorities, the action is a part of a larger effort to repair public property and safeguard critical border locations.

Officials in Bahraich found 227 instances of unlawful encroachment in the Nanpara tehsil, which is located within 10 kilometers of the international boundary. During the most recent operation, 26 more encroachments were destroyed, increasing the total number of cleared sites to 89, even though 63 had previously been eliminated in previous rounds.

No educational or religious institutions were discovered among those evicted, according to authorities.

The government of Shravasti took firm action against madrasas that were not recognized. Due to a lack of proper paperwork, 17 madrasas in all—10 in Bhinga tehsil and seven in Jamunha tehsil—were closed. Additionally, eviction and demolition orders were executed in response to several temporary and permanent unlawful encroachments under Section 67 of the Revenue Code.

Strict precautions were also implemented in the districts of Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj. Illegal mosque and madrasa building has been verified at five locations within a 10-kilometer radius of the border in Siddharthnagar’s Naugarh tehsil.
