Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has delivered many hit films in her career. It is no secret that after her debut film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya she faced significant struggles to establish herself in the Bollywood industry. The film was released in 1997. However one film released in 1996 which Aishwarya might still regret rejecting came before her debut.
She instantly rejected the offer to star in Raja Hindustani one of the biggest hits of its time. After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan declined the makers approached Manisha Koirala Pooja Bhatt and Juhi Chawla. After all of them turned it down the Aamir Khan-starrer Raja Hindustani eventually went to Karisma Kapoor.
This Aamir Khan film turned Karisma Kapoor into a superstar overnight. Made on a budget of Rs 5.75 crore the film went on to gross Rs 76.34 crore worldwide becoming the highest-grossing film of the year and the fourth highest-grossing film of the 1990s in India behind Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
The on-screen chemistry between Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan was electric. Their performances were widely praised and a much-talked-about kissing scene took the film to another level.
Karisma Kapoor as Aarti was complimented for her looks and performance in Raja Hindustani. She played a rich beautiful sensitive young woman full of dreams and desires. The movie has been Kapoors biggest commercial success till date and is regarded as one of her best performances; it was a major turning point in her career.
The movie was remade in Kannada as Naanu Naane in 2002 and was later dubbed in Telugu as Prema Bandham.
