A headteacher has banned from wearing jumpers until the end of October leaving parents furious. The Winston Churchill School in Woking, Surrey, said students could not wear woolly coverings from after the Easter holiday. But instead, must wear blazers and can only take these off when they ask teachers.
The mixed gave a blanket ban on jumpers which began on April 22 and will run until the end of October. Some parents are not happy with the decision and have expressed their anger towards the school.
A petition has been started to get jumpers reinstated at the . The , Zoe Johnson-Walker, issued a letter to parents who have undermined the rules.
Zoe thanks the "majority" of parents who have supported the new but also addresses the parents who have "undermined" the rules.
In the letter, she wrote: "Our school has very clear expectations and we expect everyone to buy into the whole package and not to cherry-pick the rules that suit them and ignore those that don't.
"Parents encouraging their child to break the is placing their child in direct conflict with the school and if they are comfortable ignoring this rule then what other rules will each parent and child decide to ignore?"
She continued: "I know if I announced would be wearing PE kit, almost every student would be wearing a polo shirt and shorts regardless of the temperature.
"Therefore, the rule around the jumper stands and students are expected to wear their blazer every day, in every situation.
"Staff will give permission to remove their blazer in lessons if they ask politely, it is necessary for the task or if temperatures are high."
This comes as warmer temperatures are on the way this week. Parents have said not wearing a jumper isn't just about warmth - it's also about confidence and comfort.
