Islamabad: Following the Pahalgam disaster, which claimed 26 lives, a nervous Pakistani leadership has turned to charges against India in response to growing international pressure.
Attaullah Tarar, the Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting, has claimed in a statement that Pakistan has “credible intelligence” that India intends to take military action against the country within the next 24 to 36 hours in an attempt to deflect criticism of its inability to combat terrorism.
In a post to X, Tarar said, “Pakistan has credible intelligence that India intends to carry out military action against Pakistan in the next 24–36 hours on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations of involvement in the Pahalgam incident.”
“The region’s Indian self-assumed hubris role of judge, jury, and executor is reckless and strongly rejected,” the post said. Being a victim of terrorism itself, Pakistan is well aware of the suffering caused by this evil. Everywhere on the globe, we have consistently denounced it in all of its guises and expressions. As a responsible state, Pakistan provided an impartial committee of specialists to conduct an independent, transparent, and credible inquiry, which was warmly received.
Regretfully, India seems to have chosen to follow the perilous route of irrationality and conflict rather than the road of reason, which will have disastrous effects on the whole region and beyond.”
Another example of Pakistan’s tacit support for terrorists was when Ishaq Dar, the country’s foreign minister, told the National Assembly that the UNSC statement on Pahalgam had removed the name of the resistance forum (TRF), a Lashkar offshoot, due to pressure from Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, spoke with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres over the phone on Tuesday and begged for an impartial inquiry into the Pahalgam event.
“Spoke with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres over the phone.” Pakistan remains committed to peace but will defend its sovereignty with full force if challenged,” Sharif wrote on X on Tuesday. “I reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, rejected unfounded Indian accusations, and called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident.”
The remarks follow India’s firm stance against Pakistan after the April 22 incident in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.
