In Uttar Pradesh, the Barabanki district has ranked first for avoiding child marriages. Ten complaints of possible child marriages were sent to the district’s Childline last year.
Nine of these were successfully prevented by the team, and one report was later shown to be untrue. On Wednesday, an extra court magistrate presided over an awareness workshop on preventing child marriage at an inter-college.
Students pledged to abstain from child marriage. The initiative is a component of a larger effort that targets both government and non-government schools and involves agencies such as Women’s Welfare, Education, Police, Child Helpline, and the District Child Protection Unit.
Extra At the program’s launch, District Magistrate (Judicial) Indrasen Yadav urged kids to understand their rights and follow the law. Dr. Pallavi Singh, the district probation officer, emphasised the detrimental effects of child marriage on a kid’s physical and mental development.
Other representatives stressed the value of education and addressed students’ enquiries on the legal consequences for parents who engage in child weddings, alternatives for kids who choose to stay out of such unions, and the court system in high-profile instances like the Nirbhaya case.
