Raphinha broke Lionel Messi’s record when he assisted Barcelona’s second goal in the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Inter Milan in Barcelona on Wednesday.
The Brazilian now has 20 goal contributions (12G, 8A), the most by a Barcelona player in a single Champions League season, surpassing Messi’s tally of 19 (14G, 5A) in the 2011-12 season.
He came close to adding to it when Barca got its third goal from a corner kick but his strike was adjudged an own goal as the ball hit Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer before entering the net.
Moreover, his tally of 20 got him level with teammate Robert Lewandowski in the overall records of Champions League.

The Polish striker had the same goal contributions in the 2019-20 season, when his then-club Bayern Munich had gone on to win the title.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo has more contributions in a single season, with the Portuguese forward scoring 17 goals and assisting four more in the 2013-14 season.
Most goal contributions in a single season:
-
Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid – 21 – 2013/14
-
Rappinha – Barcelona – 20 – 2024/25
-
Cristiano Ronaldo – 20 – 2015/16
-
Robert Lewandowski – 20 – 2019/20
-
Lionel Messi – 19 – 2011/12
“After three defeats in a row we saw the real Inter tonight. We played with heart and I’m proud. Obviously we wanted to win but I think it was a good performance and it’s still all to play for. Let’s see what happens at the San Siro,” Raphinha said after the match.
The Brazilian, who moved to Barcelona from Leeds United in 2022, has 50 goals and as many assists in 138 appearances, and has won four major trophies with the club.
