Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam’s two largest metropolises, witnessed an increase in foreign tourists during the five-day holiday to celebrate Reunification Day and Labor Day (April 30-May 4).
During the period, Hanoi welcomed an estimated 875,200 visitors, up 18.64% from the same period last year. Of these, 136,190 were foreign arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 55.35%.
Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND3.15 trillion (US$121.1 million), up 25.21%.
Demand for travel and accommodation surged, with 4- to 5-star hotels nearing full occupancy. Retail and dining services also recorded significant growth in customer numbers and revenue.
A wide array of cultural events took place citywide, while localities introduced new tourism products to attract visitors. Hanoi also distributed 110,000 gift packages to visitors to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and conducted inspections at major tourist sites, all of which were found to be well-managed and compliant with safety and hygiene regulations.
A series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification contributed to the booming tourism industry in Ho Chi Minh City. The number of visitors soared, with approximately 1.95 million arriving in the city during the five-day break from April 30 to May 4, marking a 101% increase from the same period last year.
Foreign visitors reached 120,000, more than double the 54,000 recorded in the previous year. Total tourism revenue during these five days was estimated to exceed VND7.1 trillion.
According to the National Tourism Administration, most of key tourist destinations across the country have recorded positive signals with a sharp increase in the number of visitors, from 50 to 100%, compared to the same period in 2024.
