Ajay Devgn is basking in the glory of his recent release Raid 2, a thriller directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. The highly awaited sequel to Raid in 2018 has opened with huge numbers and is already on its way to becoming one of the biggest Bollywood films in recent history.
Raid 2 reprises the intense fight of justice with Devgn once again playing the fearless income tax inspector. The movie also sees the return of Saurabh Shukla’s classic villain of the original film and adding to the cast is Riteish Deshmukh in a new dark, negative character. Vaani Kapoor is introduced as the female lead, bringing freshness to the story.
While the original Raid was a sleeper hit opening modestly at ₹9.50 crore net on its first day and gradually climbing the rungs on the strength of word-of-mouth to reach a lifetime figure of ₹98 crore net Raid 2 had a completely different ride. With the goodwill of its predecessor and a growing fan base, the sequel opened with a bang, raking in ₹19 crore net on its first day itself.
In a mere five days since its release, Raid 2 has earned a whopping ₹78.25 crore net in India. Despite mixed reviews, the film’s opening and consistent audience turnout indicate that it will beat the lifetime collection of its prequel by the end of its extended first week.
