The annual Met Gala, a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute where celebrities, designers, and influencers showcase extravagant fashion based on a specific theme, took place Monday evening at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrating Black history, culture, and style.

The 28-year-old Thai K-pop star Lisa made a bold debut, embracing the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with an ensemble by Louis Vuitton.

Lisa’s look featured a sheer black lace blazer adorned with embroidered portraits, a sheer bodysuit, and logo-printed tights. The ensemble was completed with a pearl-accented chain belt and a black Louis Vuitton handbag.

She also donned sheer tights featuring Louis Vuitton’s iconic symbols and went “pantless,” a fashion trend followed by many other female celebrities at the event, who chose to forgo traditional pants.

However, upon closer inspection, netizens noticed Rosa Parks’ face seemingly embroidered into the bottom of Lisa’s bodysuit.

They said the graphic lace pattern on Lisa’s bodysuit appears to show faces, one of which many believe looks like late civil rights icon Rosa Parks, according to the New York Post.

Vogue shared that renowned Black artist Henry Taylor created the designs featured in Lisa’s outfit. The acclaimed artist is known for his miniature works on clothing.

Regarding the faces on the clothing, the brand noted, “the lace replicates elements of an artwork” by Henry—born in 1958—which depicts “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life.” However, it did not specify exactly who was portrayed, AND! News reported.

Rosa Parks (1913–2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955. Her actions inspired leaders of the local Black community to organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

One user wrote on X, “Just found out Lisa had Rosa Parks embroidered into her UNDERWEAR.”

Another wrote: “Why does Lisa have Rosa Parks in her pants? One of the historic women who fought against racism.”

“Lisa needs to fire her whole PR team at this point,” read another tweet. “Why is [Rosa] Parks on your p – girl!!!”

One user tweeted: “So Rosa Parks who literally risked her life for civil rights is now lingerie decor? And the defence [sic] is ‘Lisa might not know her yet’?? Sorry, but ignorance isn’t edgy and also, what do you mean by ‘Rosa Parks stans’? This isn’t a rap beef.”

“Using Rosa Parks’ image in this manner appears to be a blatant lack of respect and sensitivity towards her legacy and the struggles she faced during the Civil Rights Movement,” added another.

As of Wednesday, Louis Vuitton has not confirmed whether Rosa Parks was intentionally included, and Lisa has not publicly commented on the outfit’s meaning.
