A major is shutting another store and risks vanishing from our after closing 35 shops last month. Select, a well-known budget fashion retailer went bust last month leading to numerous store closures up and down the country as well as staff being left unpaid.
Their demise has contributed to the rising cost of living, economic pressure and online shopping. Owned by the Turkish entrepreneur Cafer Mahiroglu, the store has been reducing its physical retail offering since January amid worrying economic times for retailers. Select once occupied 169 stores on Britain's high streets. And now Grantham locals have been left devastated as their store has been earmarked for closure in a matter of days.
Select will pull down the shutters on the store on May 28. However, locals can treat themselves to "crazy offers" with the shop full of bargains ahead of its closure.
Taking to Facebook, a spokesperson for the store said: "It is with a heavy heart that we tell all our lovely customers that our store will be closing.
"I just want to take a minute to say thank you for all your support over the years."
The store was due to close in a matter of days on May 10 however the landlord threw Grantham a small lifeline by extending the lease by three weeks until May 28.
In another post, the spokesperson continued: "To our lovely customers. The landlord has extended our lease until May 28.
"This means we will be here for another three weeks of trade.
"We are so sorry for the confusion but we are happy to still be able to see your happy faces for a few more weeks."
Reacting to the store's closure disappointed locals rushed to express their sadness and concern for their town's rapidly decreasing retail offering.
One said: "We will soon have no clothing stores left in Grantham."
"It's scary for all of us retail workers how everything is going atm", said another.
A third added: "Oh wow we literally have nothing in this town such bloody shame."
