Response from AAP Leader on Councillor Resignations

In light of several councillors resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party leader Priyanka Kakkar has responded. She stated that during the mayoral elections, they had already revealed how the BJP attempted to lure their councillors with an offer of ₹5 crore to join their ranks. Kakkar emphasized that the BJP is once again trying to buy off councillors, as they still lack sufficient members to form a permanent committee or ward committee.

Formation of a New Political Party

Among those forming the new political front are Dinesh Bhardwaj, Suman Anil Rana, Mukesh Goyal, and Hemchandra Goyal. Mukesh Goyal announced that approximately 15 councillors have resigned from AAP to establish a new party named Indraprastha Vikas Party. He expressed that despite being in power, they were unable to serve the people of Delhi effectively due to internal conflicts. Councillor Himani Jain, upon resigning from AAP, confirmed the formation of the Indraprastha Vikas Party, stating, 'We have resigned from AAP.'

Concerns Over Lack of Progress

Goyal further mentioned that there has been no significant work accomplished in the corporation over the past two and a half years. Despite being in power, they felt ineffective. The new party aims to focus on the development of Delhi and will support any party that aligns with this vision. So far, 15 councillors have resigned, with the possibility of more joining. It is noteworthy that the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) will hold elections on May 22 to fill two vacant positions in its permanent committee, along with elections for various ward committee chairpersons and vice-chairpersons. This election is necessitated by the resignations of two councillors after their election as MLAs, who were previously elected to the permanent committee from the South Zone and City-SP Zone ward committees.
