Arrests Made in Espionage Case

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh has apprehended two individuals, Mohammad Haroon and Tufail, on charges of engaging in anti-national activities, spying for Pakistan, and participating in illegal financial transactions with Pakistani intelligence agents. Tufail, son of Maqsood Alam, was arrested in Varanasi for allegedly sharing critical internal security information of India with Pakistan.

Details of the Investigation

Based on intelligence reports, the ATS field unit in Varanasi confirmed that Tufail was in contact with several individuals in Pakistan. He was reportedly sharing videos in a WhatsApp group associated with Maulana Shah Rizvi, the leader of the banned terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Labbaik. Additionally, he disseminated messages calling for 'Ghazwa-e-Hind', revenge for the Babri Masjid, and the implementation of Sharia law in India.

Connections to Pakistani Officials

According to a press release from the ATS, 45-year-old Mohammad Haroon, a scrap dealer from Seelampur in Delhi, was found to be in contact with Mujammal Hussain, an employee at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. Haroon allegedly facilitated visa arrangements for travel to Pakistan in exchange for money, and more alarmingly, he shared significant information related to India's internal security. Intelligence reports indicated that Haroon, who has familial ties in Pakistan, met with Hussain during his visits to the Pakistani High Commission. The ATS stated that Haroon intentionally maintained contact with the Pakistani official and collaborated to provide critical information that could destabilize India's internal security.
