There is good news for the students who have obtained two degrees simultaneously before the year 2022 in the country. In this regard, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has changed its old rules. According to the revised rules of UGC regarding obtaining two degrees simultaneously in the country, now two degrees obtained simultaneously before the year 2022 will also be valid. Let us understand what this whole matter is. When has UGC issued a new order in this regard?
UGC had considered two degrees simultaneously before the 2022 illegal
UGC issued a notification on 13 April 2022 regarding obtaining two degrees simultaneously in the country. It was clarified in the guidelines issued with the notification that only after the release of the notification, two degrees obtained simultaneously as per UGC rules will be valid. Also, in point 5 of the 2022 guidelines, UGC had clarified that if a student has obtained two degrees simultaneously before the date of issue of the notification i.e. 13 April 2022, then he will not be able to claim its benefits. For example, UGC had declared two degrees obtained simultaneously before 2022 as illegal.
Rules changed on 3 April 2025
A decision has been taken in the UGC meeting of 3 April 2025 to validate two degrees obtained simultaneously before 2022. The decision in this regard has been made public by UGC on 5 June along with revised guidelines. According to the new rules, two degrees obtained simultaneously before the guidelines issued by UGC on 13 April 2022 will also be valid, but to obtain both degrees, compliance with UGC rules must be ensured.
Rules for obtaining two degrees simultaneously
UGC has laid down the rules for obtaining two degrees simultaneously in the guidelines of 13 April 2022, under which any student can enroll in two full-time courses in physical mode to obtain two degrees simultaneously, but the timing of both classes should not be the same. However, if the student wishes, he can pursue one course in physical mode and the other in ODL or online mode.
