Start of Father’s Day

The tradition of celebrating Father’s Day began in the early 1900s. The first day was celebrated on 19 June 1910 in the city of Fairmont in West Virginia, USA. There was a very poignant reason behind this- 210 people lost their lives in an accident in Mongah, West Virginia in 1907. He was all father.

After this tragic accident, a woman named ‘Lugress Golden Clayton’ suggested to dedicate one day in memory of all these late fathers. From this, the foundation of Father’s Day was laid and this day started to be celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June.

When is Father’s Day celebrated worldwide

Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the US, Canada, Britain and many other countries including India. However, in some countries its date is different. Father’s Day is celebrated in the month of August in Spain and Portugal. This special day in Thailand is celebrated in December. According to the culture and traditions of every country, the date of celebrating the day may be different, but the objective is the same- to respect the father’s contribution.

Importance of Father’s Day

Like the mother’s mother, the father’s renunciation and love is also the basis of life, which is often ignored. Father’s Day gives us the opportunity to recognize the dedication of our father that he did for us without any hope. On this day, children give gifts to their father, write letters or spend time with them. All these efforts symbolize that we understand the importance of being in their lives and are grateful for their love.
