As Texas has long been a majorly red state, a new effort backed by billionaire George Soros is aiming to change that, as per a report.

A Red State With a Blue Target

Soros will be spending millions to back Texas Majority PAC, a political action committee, as it wants to launch the Blue Texas initiative along with the Texas Democratic Party, reported the Independent.

The initiative aims to organise tens of thousands of volunteers, recruit candidates and increase voter turnout, as Texas Democrats have not been able to win a statewide office since 1994, as per the report.

Recent Election Setbacks in Texas

Sen. Ted Cruz had won the re-election by double digits in 2024 and US president Donald Trump won Texas by over 13 points, while former US president Joe Biden only lost Texas by about 5.6 points, reported the Independent.

The Democratic Party in Texas lost in 2024 even after the Texas Majority PAC, the state Democratic Party and county parties under the Blue Texas umbrella spent $35 million, according to the report.

Looking Toward 2026 Midterm Elections

Even in the 2026 midterm elections, the Democratic Party is expected to face trouble as Republican Gov. Greg Abbott might run for a fourth term and likely win re-election, as per the Independent.

While, the deputy executive director of Texas Majority PAC, Katherine Fischer said, “If a win is on the table in 2026, we don’t want to leave it there by not being organized,” quoted the Independent. Katherine also pointed out that, “There is no choice for Texas or for anyone else in the country who wants to see a Democrat in the White House after 2032 but to find a pathway through Texas,” as quoted in the report.
