A tourist from the United Arab Emirates has been fined 5,000 baht (US$153) for driving a car on a beach in Phuket.
The fine was slapped against 22-year-old Mohamed Alsuwaidi after he drove a rented Jeep onto Layi Beach in Kathu district on Saturday, Bangkok Post reported.
The vehicle became stuck in the sand and could not be moved.
Police said that after being alerted by local residents, officers arrived at the scene and used a water truck to tow the vehicle back to the road, according to The Thaiger.
Alsuwaidi was taken to the police station for questioning. He was charged with causing a public nuisance, and the vehicle was impounded following the incident.
Local authorities continue to urge both tourists and residents to follow local regulations and avoid driving on beaches, as such actions pose environmental risks and safety hazards.
