King Charles is set to face an awkward dilemma that may see him have to turn down Prince Harry's olive branch. It was reported this weekend that the Duke of Sussex, 40, is set to invite his father King Charles and other royals to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham.
The invitation, which reportedly will be sent soon, is believed to be an attempt by Harry, who quit royal life in 2020, to make amends with the Royal Family after years of rumoured rifts following his criticism of the monarchy. However, while it is already unknown as to whether or not the royals will take up the invite to the competition - initially founded by Harry in 2014 to help wounded ex service personnel - saying yes could prove to be a dilemma for the King.
This is because the Birmingham Invictus Games competition is set to end on July 17, and will therefore clash with Queen Camilla's 80th birthday.
The event is scheduled to run from July 12 until July 17, with Harry expected to return to the UK as founder of the games.
A source told The Mail on Sunday: "Harry has agreed that Invictus should extend an invitation to his family.
"Invictus hopes the Royal Family will come along to support the wounded veterans taking part. Harry is hopeful his father will set aside their differences to attend the Invictus Games and support veterans.
"The Royals have always been hugely supportive of Invictus and proud of what Harry has achieved in that arena. This is one olive branch from him which might be reciprocated."
It is not known whether Harry would bring his wife Meghan Markle, 43, and their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet with him to the UK for the competition.
This is because Harry lost his court appeal regarding his downgraded UK taxpayer-funded security just last month, resulting in him feeling as though it is unsafe for his family to come to the UK.
It is believed the security situation widened the rift between Harry and the King, with Harry telling the BBC in May that the monarch "won't speak" to him.
It is not known whether or not the royals will accept the invitation to the 2027 event.
