In Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, a woman has lodged a shocking complaint against her husband alleging severe dowry harassment and attempted abandonment. The woman told police that her husband promised to drop her at her parents’ house but instead drugged her in the car and left her unconscious near a canal bank.

Shyam Vati, a resident of Jaitpur Kalan Chaturbhujpura in Thana Bah, Agra, got married to Kitab Singh from Civil Line Adda Juhana on April 30. According to her complaint, the harassment started soon after marriage when her husband began demanding additional dowry.

The woman accused her husband of locking her in a room and beating her brutally, even stuffing cloth in her mouth to silence her. On a recent Thursday evening, Kitab Singh took her in a friend’s car under the pretense of dropping her to her parents’ house. However, during the ride, he sprinkled intoxicating drugs on her, making her unconscious.

When she regained consciousness, Shyam Vati found herself abandoned near Ikdil canal. A young passerby lent her a mobile phone to contact the police, who rescued her and took her to the station. Her family later took her home.

The woman, along with her family, went to the SSP office on Friday to formally file a complaint demanding strict action against her husband. Police have recorded her statement and said the husband will be questioned soon. Appropriate legal steps will be taken based on the investigation.
