On July 9, in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, officially launched the 2025 season of the ASMITA league. The season kicked off with a weightlifting competition that saw participation from forty-two girls competing across eight weight categories during a two-day event.

For the financial year 2025-26, a total of 852 leagues spanning 15 different sports are scheduled. These leagues will take place across various states and Union Territories, showcasing the talents of over 70,000 female athletes. In the previous season, 550 leagues were held across 27 sports, allowing 53,101 female athletes to participate.

Mandaviya expressed his commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes, stating, “I see a lot of passion in the eyes of these kids here in Modinagar. I am confident we will discover another talent like Mirabai Chanu.”

Among the dignitaries present at the ASMITA weightlifting league's inauguration was Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu, who inspired the participants alongside Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Raksha Nikhil Khadse.

Raksha Khadse emphasized the significance of ASMITA in the sports framework, noting, “Women have shown their potential in sports, and the possibilities are endless. The determination in these kids is something we must nurture.”

Mandaviya highlighted Mirabai Chanu as an exemplary role model, stating, “Her journey from a small village in Manipur to international success sets a standard for aspiring women weightlifters.”

He reaffirmed the government's comprehensive commitment to sports, pointing out that the sports budget has quadrupled over the past decade. “We aim to reach every part of India, informing aspiring athletes that a pathway to success is now available. Our Khelo Bharat Niti, aligned with the National Education Policy, is designed to enhance school sports, which will be evident in the Khelo India calendar,” Mandaviya added.

Mirabai Chanu remarked on the positive impact of the ASMITA Leagues, which began in 2021, stating, “The structured approach provides a clear vision for aspiring athletes. We lacked such opportunities in the past, making ASMITA a true blessing for women aiming to excel in sports.”
