Ujjain: This year’s Shravan (Sawan) month begins on Monday, July 14. Baba Mahakal’s bhasma aarti was done at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain on this special day.
First, water was used to wash Mahakal Baba. Next, ‘Panchamrit Abhishek’ was performed using milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruits. Baba was then presented with ashes.
Alongside the sounds of conch shells, bells, and hymns, the temple echoed with Vedic chanting.
As the auspicious month of Sawan continues to attract people to one of Lord Shiva’s twelve Jyotirlingas, devotees were seen lining up to offer prayers and carry out rituals devoted to the deity.
Shravan started this year on July 11 and ends on August 9. For Shiva believers, this fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar is one of the most sacred times of the year.
It is said that Lord Shiva loves the month of Shravan the best. During this month, worshiping Shiva provides respite from all problems.
In Hindu mythology, Sawan, also known as Shravan, is very important. Devotees practice Rudrabhishek, or the ritual washing of the Shiva Lingam, fast, pray, recite Shiva mantras, and sing devotional bhajans throughout this month.
Every Monday (Somwar) of this month is devoted to worshiping Lord Shiva and is regarded as particularly fortunate. The goddess Parvati, Shiva’s celestial spouse, is honored on Tuesdays (Mangalwar).
Many followers follow rigorous fasts, avoiding grains and ingesting only fruits, milk, and certain items that are allowed throughout the fast.
During this time, devotees pray to Lord Shiva in order to get his blessings. During the ‘Sawan’ month, many homes and temples fervently pursue the usual customs of reciting Shiva mantras, singing bhajans (devotional songs), and conducting Rudrabhishek (ceremonial washing of Shiva Lingam with holy ingredients).
