Sunil gavaskar on shubman gill run out: India on Thursday lost their captain Shubman Gill due to a suicide run out due to intermittent rains in the afternoon session on the first day of the fifth Test match of the series against England.
When the rain stopped the game at the Oval, India's score was 85 runs for three wickets, Sai Sudarshan (28 runs off 84 balls) and Karun Nair (0 runs off 8 balls) were at the crease. The second session started at 3 pm local time due to the sudden rains shortly before lunch. Gill (21 runs off 35 balls), after the break, tried to score runs by playing a great drive off Jamie Overton.
After working hard, Gill tried to take a run off Gas Atkinson's ball, who picked up the ball on the follow through and put it in the stumps, which led the Indian captain to get out of his crease. Indian cricket team veteran Sunil Gavaskar was shocked by Gavaskar Gill and he described it as 'suicide'. He also said that it was a major setback for India in terms of the match.
Gavaskar said on Gill's run out
Gavaskar said during his analysis, "It was suicidal. I don't know what happened. When he was trying to get a single, what was going on in his mind. To be inflicted, there was no run in it. So it is a huge shock and you can see it. He was hoping to miss the stumps."
Talking about the match, due to rain and wet outfield, only six overs could be thrown in the second session, during which India dismissed captain Shubman Gill and his score was 85 runs for three wickets till tea. After getting lunch early due to rain, India started the second season by 72 runs for two wickets, but Gill was run out for 21 runs after adding six runs in his personal score. In the second session, again the rain disrupted and the tea rest was taken later.
