Punjab News: The Punjab Government has taken a major initiative towards making the justice system more human and rehabilitation oriented. In the last one year, 108 prisoners with good conduct have been released in advance. Giving information about the decision, Punjab Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the step reflects the state government’s commitment to justice and rehabilitation.

The decision provides a second chance to prisoners who displayed good behavior in jail and completed the prescribed criteria for release.

Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that this release is part of the widespread strategy of the Punjab government that focuses on not only punishing but re -establishing prisoners in society. He said, ‘Our government believes in another occasion. This release is a proof of our commitment, which gives individuals an opportunity for rehabilitation and integration in society. ‘ This step has been taken towards creating a more sympathetic and just society.

Improvement in communication facility in jails

The Punjab government has also taken steps to improve communication facilities for prisoners. Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that about 800 calling systems have been installed in jails, so that prisoners can easily contact their families and lawyers. This will help prevent the use of illegal mobile phones in jails. In addition, poor prisoners are being provided 10 minutes free call facility every 15 days, so that they can talk to their families and legal advisors.

Target of human and effective justice system

Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar stressed that this initiative of the Punjab government is a step towards making the justice system not only punitive but corrective. By releasing good conduct prisoners, the government is giving them an opportunity to make positive contribution to the society.
