Over the last few years the Royal Family has had its fair share of drama. From Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 2020 exit, to Prince Andrew's involvement in scandals, the royals have had plenty of adversity to deal with.

While some statements have been issued around both situations, the majority of the time members of the Royal Family have remained tight-lipped about the ongoing dramas, especially when it comes to their rumoured rifts with Harry, 40. Although it is well-known that they rarely comment on such matters, it is believed they may have taken on this approach as a result of the late Queen Mother's actions.

This is because the Queen Mother, who died in 2002, had a clever tactic to avoid drama, which was essentially to not acknowledge it.

This resulted in Queen Elizabeth II's mum being nicknamed "the imperial ostrich" by those close to her, a reference to the way she would "stick her head in the sand" to avoid difficult matters.

Author William Shawcross once said: "[The Queen Mother] wouldn't acknowledge, let alone confront, disagreeableness within the family."

This same view was put forward by royal expert Hugo Vickers, who once said: "The Queen Mother was always someone who if she were unhappy or saw something she didn't like she would just blank it out and just wouldn't refer to it. It didn't happen or the person didn't exist."

Vickers also told The Sun that the Queen Mother would have been "horrified" by some of Harry and Meghan's actions.

He said: "I think the Queen Mother would have been absolutely horrified in regards to Meghan and Harry's interview with Oprah.

"Fundamentally a lot of things that were said in there that were not true and very easy to disprove. I'm sure she would be very unhappy."

The Queen Mother never met Meghan Markle.
