On Wednesday, a man accused of attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing at her camp office in Civil Lines has been remanded to police custody for five days, according to court sources.
The suspect, identified as Sakariya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, 41, was presented late at night at a magistrate's residence in Dwarka, South-West Delhi. It was noted that he was not brought before any magistrate at the Tis Hazari court complex.
Authorities have filed a case against the Rajkot (Gujarat) resident under Section 109(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to attempted murder. Additionally, he faces charges for allegedly assaulting a public servant and obstructing them in the performance of their duties.
The attack on Gupta occurred around 8:15 AM during the public hearing at her office. The Chief Minister's office described the incident as part of a 'premeditated conspiracy to assassinate the Chief Minister.'
Officials from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) reported that medical professionals examined Gupta, and a medico-legal case (MLC) investigation was subsequently conducted. Sources indicated that Khimjibhai had arrived in Delhi two days prior and was staying in Civil Lines, North Delhi.
