Activist's Hunger Strike in Mumbai

On Friday, police granted activist Manoj Jarange permission to continue his hunger strike for Maratha reservation at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai for an additional day. An official confirmed this information.

Initially, the activist was allowed to remain at the site for just one day after he commenced his indefinite hunger strike on Friday morning. According to a police officer, the permission was set to expire at 6 PM, following directives from the Bombay High Court. However, the organizers requested an extension, which was subsequently approved by the Azad Maidan police station.

As thousands of Jarange's supporters gathered in South Mumbai on Friday, road traffic in the area came to a near standstill. Jarange is advocating for the recognition of all Marathas as Kunbis, a farming community classified under the OBC category. Inclusion in the OBC category would enable Marathas to benefit from reservations in government jobs and education.
