Health Insurance: The company's agreement with Max ended in May 2025. No agreement could be reached in the negotiations for premium revision, due to which cashless services have been suspended.

Health Insurance: If you have Niva Bupa Health Insurance and you are thinking of getting treatment at Max Hospitals, then this news is important for you. Now you will not be able to get cashless treatment there, that is, now you will have to get treatment by paying money yourself and later claim from the insurance company.

What is the matter?

Dr. Bhavatosh Mishra, Director and COO of Niva Bupa Health Insurance said that the company's agreement with Max has ended in May 2025. No agreement could be reached in the negotiations for premium revision, due to which cashless services have been suspended.

Mishra said, we would like to inform you that our cashless services are currently not available in Max Hospitals. He further said that insurance companies like Star Health and Care Health are also facing similar problems with Max Hospitals.

Cashless facility available in more than 10 thousand hospitals

The insurance company told customers that cashless services are still available in more than 10,000 of its associate hospitals across the country. Max Hospitals has not yet commented on this matter.

What does the hospital association (AHPI) say?

This problem is not limited to Niva Bupa only. Policyholders of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Care Health Insurance will also not be able to avail cashless services in many hospitals from September 1. The Association of Healthcare Providers (India) (AHPI) has expressed deep concern to online health insurance companies over the suspension of cashless services in several hospitals.

There were also reports that AHPI has issued an advisory to cancel the suspension of cashless services for these policyholders. However, there has been no official statement from the association.

The General Insurance Council (GI Council), the apex body representing insurance companies, has criticized the association's move, calling it a sudden and unilateral action that creates confusion and risks undermining public confidence in health insurance.

The council has warned that disruption of cashless services directly harms citizens as it forces them to make huge advance payments and may even put lives at risk in critical medical cases requiring immediate treatment. This development comes at a time when insurance regulator IRDAI is pushing for 100% cashless treatment across India.
