Dharamshala: In honor of Teachers’ Day, we highlight the remarkable story of Poonam Bhardwaj, a renowned singer from Himachal Pradesh, who is also a devoted educator and a caring mother. Her path from the rural areas of Chamba district to the spotlight of stage performances showcases not only her talent but also her resilience and wisdom.
Life posed significant challenges for Poonam Bhardwaj. She faced the loss of her father at just 11 years old while in Class VI. Despite the limited resources in her hometown, this tragedy could have shattered her spirit. However, with her mother's steadfast support, she completed her education in Chamba's government schools and later earned a Master’s degree from Himachal Pradesh University.
As she navigated her educational journey, Poonam also entered married life, which brought the challenge of balancing her home, career, and passion for music. With her enchanting voice and natural charm, she received invitations to participate in beauty contests but opted for a different path.
Choosing to dedicate herself to teaching, she joined the DAV Group of Schools, where she continues to inspire and guide her students. Music remained a constant in her life, and Poonam Bhardwaj established herself as a performing artist, showcasing Himachal’s rich cultural and folk traditions on stage.
Her soulful performances and commanding presence have made her a beloved figure among those who appreciate traditional art. Above all, Poonam cherishes her role as a mother. Her ability to harmoniously balance her commitments to the stage, classroom, and home exemplifies a rare strength. She embodies beauty, talent, wisdom, determination, and resilience.
This Teachers’ Day, her life conveys a powerful message: true education transcends textbooks and lies in the ability to balance responsibilities, nurture talent, and uphold the positive spirit of our heritage.
