Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has insisted that Aston Villa's move for Jadon Sancho on deadline day is a 'weird' one after his struggles in recent years.
Sancho completed his season-long loan switch to Villa Park last week after being placed in the 'bomb squad' by Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. The winger has spent the past season-and-a-half away from United after failing to live up expectations.
He spent the first-half of 2024 back at Borussia Dortmund before joining Chelsea last summer. Despite helping them win the Conference League and qualify for the Champions League, the Blues decided against making the move a permanent one.
On The Overlap, YouTube personality Adam McKola describedSancho as the club's 'worst ever' signing after costing £73million from Dortmund in 2023.

After Jamie Carragher questioned his overall ability, Scholes agreed with his Sky Sports colleague. Speaking on the same show, he said: "[Unai] Emery might be good for him, but he is a weird signing," he said.
"We discussed how the dimensions of the pitch might pose problems for him, Villa Park is enormous. A shortage of pace, a shortage of legs, it worries you. He has got ability, but what are his strengths?".
"Does he cut inside and smash it in the top corner? Can he beat a man? He possibly links with a centre forward.
"He probably has the skill to go past someone, but they catch him. He can't go on again."
Sancho, however, is convinced that he can reignite his career under Villa manager Unai Emery. Speaking to club media, Sancho said: “When I spoke to the manager he gave me belief and confidence.
“He showed me the plan of what they want to achieve this year and it really inspired me. He definitely persuaded me, and I can’t wait to work under him.
“As a player and especially as a team, we have to be achieving big things,” he said. “We have to be looking towards that, and hopefully I can help the team to achieve some of those goals.
“The team comes first, so whenever the manager needs me I’ll be ready.”
