The Excise Department of Indore seized more than 500 illegal liquor boxes worth Rs 24 lakh near Mewada village. The liquor was being brought by a truck under the guise of animal fodder. There is a liquor ban in 19 cities of Madhya Pradesh.

Indore: The Excise Department of Indore has seized more than 500 illegal liquor boxes worth about Rs 24 lakh by stopping a truck near Mewada village in Betma police station area. Indore Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari told reporters on Wednesday that about 200 boxes of beer and 304 boxes were being taken to Goa Whiskey under the guise of animal feed in the truck.

Liquor is banned in 19 cities of MP

Assistant Excise Commissioner Tiwari said, "About 500 boxes of illegal liquor were found from the truck under the guise of animal fodder, including 200 boxes of beer and 304 boxes of Goa whiskey, priced at around Rs 24 lakh. The seized liquor and the vehicle cost about Rs 40 lakh."

The official said that no arrests have been made from the spot, and efforts are on to find the driver of the truck along with detecting the source of alcohol. From April 1, the Madhya Pradesh government has banned liquor in 19 cities of religious and cultural importance. These areas include one municipal corporation, six municipal councils, six municipal councils and six gram panchayats.

Illegal smuggling of liquor was being done using camels

The ban was imposed in Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur and Amarkantak. Apart from this, this captive will also remain in Salakanpur, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, Barmanakalan, Barmanakhurd and Gram Panchayat areas of Linga. Meanwhile, police in Delhi arrested five people for illegally carrying liquor from Faridabad to Delhi. Officials also seized 42 boxes, including 1,990 quarters of illegal liquor, 24 beer bottles and three camels used in this illegal smuggling.

This action was taken when the team laid a trap and soon saw the accused coming to camels. Taking fast action, the suspects were stopped, seizing 42 boxes of illegal liquor and 24 beer bottles. All five people were arrested on the spot. Officials said the camels used in smuggling attempts were rescued and coordinated with the officials concerned and handed over to the animal welfare agencies.
