Gandhinagar's Bold Action Against Illegal Structures

The district administration of Gandhinagar, in collaboration with local police, initiated a significant demolition operation this morning targeting illegal encroachments along the banks of the Sabarmati River and in areas such as GEB, Pethapur, and Charedi. The primary objective of this operation is to remove over 700 unauthorized structures occupying a total area of one lakh square meters of government land. According to Gandhinagar's Superintendent of Police, Ravi Teja Vasamsetty, the campaign aims to clear these encroachments effectively. So far, 100 illegal structures have been demolished, with plans to eliminate a total of 600 encroachments in the coming days.

The SP further revealed that the market value of the reclaimed land is estimated to be around ₹1000 crores. The operation involves more than 700 police personnel, 20 administrative teams, and 20 JCB machines working diligently on the demolition tasks. He emphasized that the market value of this one lakh square meter area is approximately ₹1000 crores. The deployment includes over 700 police officers, 20 administrative teams, and 20 JCBs. Previously, in May, a large-scale anti-encroachment drive was conducted in Ahmedabad, where illegal structures were removed from over 2.5 lakh square meters of land.

Joint Police Commissioner Sharad Singhal noted that in the first phase, around 1.5 lakh square kilometers of illegal encroachments were cleared. On May 20, Singhal informed that the corporation had successfully cleared approximately 1.5 lakh square kilometers of illegal encroachments, and adequate arrangements were made to maintain law and order. The second phase commenced today, with sufficient police forces deployed. Senior officials are present on-site, and the public is cooperating with the authorities.

On May 19, Rajkot police demolished 60 illegal constructions linked to 38 habitual offenders, who were involved in serious crimes such as murder and robbery. This action followed directives from Gujarat's Home Minister and DGP to identify and take action against such criminals. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi previously stated that the state government and police are committed to taking strict measures against individuals occupying government land and engaging in criminal activities.
