Salmon is an incredibly tasty dinner, but it often becomes greasy or even burned if you are cooking it in oil or butter. Gala, a recipe developer and founder of Gala in the Kitchen, has shared that salmon is naturally a very oily fish, and it will taste much better if you just cook it in its own juices. She said: "I use baking paper to cover up the pan for frying salmon, so I don't need to use any oil and the fish not sticking to the pan. Salmon is oily fish and releases enough own oil to fry it on."
Salmon is already rich in healthy fats and adding oil or butter can make it feel heavy and overwhelm its natural buttery flavour. The skin, in particular, contains a lot of oils and adding more fat can cause it to burn easily, which can result in a bitter charred outside while the inside remains undercooked.
Baking paper is needed to trap the oils that release from the salmon while it is cooking, which will help it stay juicy and flavourful without needing butter or oil.
It also prevents the salmon from sticking to the pan, which reduces the risk of burning and makes cleaning up much easier.
This is a simple cooking method but will make salmon healthier and greatly reduces it calories without impacting its rich taste.
How to cook salmon without butter or oilYou will need:
Method:
To begin place a sheet of baking paper on your frying pan, and cut the paper to the size of the pan. Make sure to hold the baking paper inside the pan to get rid of any excess paper.
Next, dry the salmon with a paper towel, then season it with salt and pepper, as well any other seasoning you enjoy.
Place the pan on the stove without any baking paper to let it warm up first. After about a minute, carefully place the paper into the pan.
Add the salmon, and it will begin to release its own oils as it cooks. Let it fry for five to six minutes, then turn it over and cook it for the same time on the other side.
Once the fish is cooked, pour a few drops of lemon juice on it and your juicy yet tender salmon will be ready to eat.
Then, all you need to do is throw the baking paper in the bin, give the frying pan a quick rinse and it should be completely clean without needing to be washed.
