Jannik Sinner brushed aside Learner Tien to claim his first silverware since Wimbledon at the China Open. The Italian reclaimed the crown he surrendered to Carlos Alcaraz last year following a commanding 6-2, 6-2 triumph over 19-year-old American Tien, who was competing in his maiden ATP Tour final.
The victory marks Sinner's inaugural title on the regular circuit this season, with the 24-year-old adding to his Australian Open and Wimbledon triumphs just 24 hours after Alcaraz secured his eighth trophy of the campaign at the Japan Open. Sinner has suffered defeat to just one player besides Alcaraz in over 12 months and that record never appeared under threat here, with the top seed securing an early break in the opening game before maintaining his dominance throughout.
Tien had overcome Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev during the week and the encounter proved tighter than the final scoreline indicated, with the teenager once again showcasing his immense promise.
The American will climb into the top 40 for the first time following his impressive campaign, though Sinner proved ruthless when it mattered most.
"It is a very, very special place for me," Sinner said during the trophy presentation. "My team, thanks for understanding and working with me. Not all the team is here, so hopefully the rest are watching from home.
"Thanks for working with me and we will try to improve and push for more and let's see what the rest of the season looks like, but I am very happy to share this [trophy] with all of you."
Sinner will now travel to the Shanghai Masters where he will lead the field following Alcaraz's withdrawal.
British success came in the doubles competition, with two-time Grand Slam champions Henry Patten and Finland's Harri Heliovaara defeating Russian pair Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov 4-6 6-3 (10/8) in the final.
