Marigold Planting Guide: Marigold flower not only looks beautiful, but it also has great religious, decorative and medicinal importance. Its flowers are very attractive and durable in cold weather. It is also easy to grow, especially if you are even a little fond of gardening. Let us know how to prepare the marigold plant at home and how to take proper care of it. Today we will tell you about this in detail.
1. Choosing seeds
Buy good quality marigold seeds from a local nursery or online store.
Marigold is mainly of two types:
Loose, drained and fertile soil is necessary for good growth of marigold.
A mixture of 1 part gardening soil + 1 part cow dung manure + 1 part sand or coco peat will be suitable.
Sprinkle the seeds lightly over the soil in a pot or tray and put some soil on top.
Do not sow the seeds deeply, otherwise germination will not occur.
Keep the pot in shade and maintain light moisture daily.
Seeds germinate in 5–7 days.
When the plant becomes 3–4 inches tall, transplant it into a bigger pot or ground.
Sunlight: Marigold needs full sunlight. One should get at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight every day.
Watering: Do not water more than necessary. Water only when the soil becomes dry, 2–3 times a week is sufficient.
Fertilizer: You can add cowdung manure or home made compost once every 15 days. Giving fertilizer containing potash or phosphorus at the time of flowering improves flowering.
Pruning: Remove withered flowers and yellow leaves from time to time. Due to this, new branches and flowers start growing in the plant.
Pest and disease control: Aphids or fungus may occur in marigold. Spray neem oil or mild insecticide.
Marigold plant is very strong and requires little care. If taken proper care, it gives flowers continuously for many months. Marigold is also used for making garlands, puja, decoration and to ward off insects.
