Veteran Pakistani actress Saba Faisal recently spoke candidly about the state of the entertainment industry, particularly focusing on the issue of awards and ageism. During her appearance on a morning show, she shared her thoughts on how awards in Pakistani showbiz predominantly go to younger actors, while seasoned artists like herself are often overlooked.
Saba Faisal expressed that she has no interest in chasing awards anymore, as she has already received multiple accolades in the past, especially during the Pakistan Television (PTV) era when awards held more significance. “Awards today are mostly given to young actors. They don’t care about us older artists,” she said. Despite this, she remains confident and proud of her long-standing career.
Discussing her personal life, Saba revealed that she never hides her age and embraces it wholeheartedly. She believes she is living her best years now and enjoying life more than ever. She shared that she began her career playing motherly roles and continues to portray such characters, even though the actors she once played mother to have now disappeared from the industry.
The actress also opened up about her health struggles, revealing she suffered from severe back pain for six to seven years due to a spinal issue. Through consistent exercise and a healthier lifestyle, she was able to overcome her condition. She admitted that she only started focusing on fitness and dieting after turning 45, especially when she noticed her weight gain affecting her appearance.
Reflecting on the current entertainment landscape, Saba Faisal divided the industry into three groups: those who compete for awards, social media sensations, and true working actors. She identifies herself in the last group—an artist recognized for her dedication and craft, rather than social media popularity or award counts.
Saba Faisal’s honest reflections highlight the challenges older actors face in the industry and her unwavering commitment to her craft despite the shifting trends around her.
