Test Twenty20 in cricket : Cricket is a game that is widely known worldwide. Many changes have come in the game of cricket. The cycle of change continues in this sport. The first Test match was played in Melbourne on 15 March 1877. Since then there have been changes in cricket. Gradually, the format has changed and the excitement of cricket has increased. After the Tests, the ODI format came forward. Then the T20 format was born. Which has made cricket faster, more exciting and more entertaining for the audience. Then innovations like ‘The Hundred’ and ‘T-10’ also entered the game and now, another new format called ‘Test Twenty’ has come into play.
Gaurav Bahirwani, CEO of The Fourth Format and Executive Chairman of One One Six Network, said Test Twenty is a form of cricket that brings together both Test and T20 elements. In this format, each team will have two chances to bat, just like in a Test match. The only difference is that this format will be shorter and faster, which will keep the audience engrossed in every exciting moment and help make the match experience on TV more enjoyable.
This format combines the rules of Test and T20 cricket. Some of the rules are taken from Test cricket, others from T20, but slightly modified to suit this new format. The outcome of the match is likely to be a win, loss, draw or draw. That means the game is going to be not only fast but also very exciting in terms of outcome.
Even cricket legends seem to be excited about this new format. Names like AB de Villiers, Matthew Hayden, Clive Lloyd and Harbhajan Singh are included in the project’s advisory board. Although Test Twenty20 is yet to officially enter international cricket, work on it is said to be progressing rapidly.
AB de Villiers said, “The greatest strength of this format is its freedom and creativity. It allows the players to express themselves freely and it is fearless cricket that challenges them to balance and survive both innings.” Matthew Hayden also said, “Young players are the future of the game, which is why he has joined this format. The longer format is a test of character, skill, mental and physical strength. We will see the best of both worlds.”
