Tehran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has given a big statement. On Sunday, it was announced in Tehran that the country’s nuclear plants that were destroyed by the American attacks will be rebuilt. That too with a much stronger structure than before, he said. He clarified that Iran’s goal is not to develop nuclear weapons, but to promote public welfare and medical research. On the other hand, a former senior judicial officer claimed that Iran can prepare a nuclear bomb within two weeks.

Pejeshkian made this statement when he was visiting the country’s Atomic Energy Organization and met scientists there. Speaking to government media, he said that demolishing buildings and factories can never bother us. We will build them again, and this time stronger than ever. No one can stop us from doing this.

Will make atomic bomb within two weeks
On the other hand, former senior Iranian judicial official Mohammad-Javad Larijani has claimed that Iran has the capability to prepare a nuclear bomb within two weeks, but still it refuses to choose this path. Larijani said Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has issued a strong fatwa against nuclear weapons, which is based on Shia jurisprudence. Larijani, a former top adviser to Khamenei, said he favors expanding Iran’s nuclear program as a deterrent, but is against building weapons.

He strongly condemned the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), saying that its ‘diplomatic policies’ have pushed Iran towards crisis. Larijani stressed that the JCPOA’s principle of based on rights in exchange for concessions amounts to sacrificing one right to gain another.

Big statement amid international investigation
The statement comes as international scrutiny over Iran’s nuclear program is intensifying, with questions being raised over the level of uranium enrichment and its stocks. Analysts have also cast doubt on the validity and religious validity of Khamenei’s fatwa. Experts believe that this dual stance of Iran (claiming the capability to make nuclear weapons and at the same time assuring not to do so voluntarily) is further complicating diplomatic efforts.

It is noteworthy that in June, America had claimed to destroy Iran’s nuclear bases with its state-of-the-art B-2 stealth bomber planes. At that time, the then US President Donald Trump had said that this attack had caused so much devastation that Iran would no longer be able to muster the courage to rebuild it.
