Thondar Ani : is a new volunteers’ wing that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has established to guarantee public safety and efficient crowd control during its rallies and campaigns.
The action comes after Vijay’s roadshow, one of the largest political rallies the party has yet to experience, caused a stampede in Karur on September 27 that left 41 people dead and over 60 wounded.
On the basis of the DMK and MDMK, which both have trained internal teams for controlling big public gatherings, TVK formed Thondar Ani after the tragedy revealed the need of an organized volunteer force that could handle enormous crowds, according to party insiders.
During all significant events, the new wing will supervise crowd flow, set up safety zones, and work with law enforcement and medical personnel.
Selected TVK functionaries have participated in training sessions led by seven retired police officers: V.A. Ravikumar, IPS (ADGP, Retd.), P. Ashokan (ASP, Retd.), Sabibulla (Ex-DSP), Thillainayagam (DSP, Retd.), R. Sivalingam (DSP, Retd.), R. Lakshminarayanan (DSP, Retd.), and R. Mathiarasu (DSP, Retd.).
Crowd psychology, emergency response procedures, law enforcement cooperation, and public safety regulations were all included in the training. According to party sources, the move is a component of Vijay’s larger plan to formalize the TVK’s organizational framework in advance of the Assembly elections in 2026.
“Vijay wants the party to be recognized for its organization, discipline, and readiness. A top leader said, “Thondar Ani will make sure that our events continue to be safe for the general public while upholding efficiency and order.”
TVK has established Thondar Ani and appointed office-bearers for its volunteer, women’s, and student wings in 65 district units, indicating a broad grassroots development.
Record-breaking numbers have attended the party’s recent rallies around Tamil Nadu, highlighting the rising popularity of Vijay’s political movement and the pressing need for a strong internal system to guarantee that such events are run sensibly and securely.
