The good news is that now you do not need to stand in queue at any government office for this – you can update Aadhaar address online sitting at home.

How to update address online

UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has launched a simple online process for the convenience of citizens. You can add a new address in your Aadhar card by following the steps given below —

Visit the official website of UIDAI:

Click on ‘Login’:
Enter your Aadhaar number and sign in with OTP.

Select ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ option:
There you will get the option to update address.

Enter new address:
Carefully fill in your new address in both Hindi and English.

Upload supporting documents:
Like – copy of electricity bill, bank passbook, rent agreement or gas connection.

Check the preview and submit:
Submit if the information seems correct.

Note the URN number:
After submission, you will get an Update Request Number (URN), with the help of which you can track the status of your application.

Can address be changed even without documents?

UIDAI had earlier provided the facility of “Address Validation Letter”, in which the address could also be updated with the address proof of a family member or relative. However, at present this service is temporarily closed. Therefore, it is necessary for you to submit your address proof document now.

How much time does it take to update?

Once the application is submitted, UIDAI usually verifies your new address in 5 to 7 working days. After successful update, you get notified via SMS, and the new address is registered in your Aadhaar.
