After impressing the football world in UEFA Euro 2024 at the age of 17, he emerged as one of the best players in the world. He even finished second in the Ballon d’Or race.
Now a global football superstar, it seems that the now 18-year-old might be taking on another trait of being a massive football star, being the reason behind a manager leaving their club.
Barcelona have had a tumultuous start to the 2025-26 season. They are currently second on the La Liga table, barely ahead of teams like Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, in the UCL, they stand 12th in the league table with two wins and a defeat in the matches. They have also suffered defeats to rivals Real Madrid and PSG already this season.
And from such an environment, it is natural for reports of displeasure and dissent to emerge. And one such story was reported by Spanish outlet ABC.
The report started that manager Hansi Flick had privately informed goods supporting staff that he has decided to step down from his current position as the Barcelona manager at the end of this season.
The manager reportedly admitted the reason behind this decision is his growing disillusion with the atmosphere within the squad. More than recent disappointing results, it is the declining professionalism and unity amidst his squad.
At the center of Flick’s dissatisfaction is Yamal, who has been in news for reasons other than fireball many times in the last year. Most recently, rather than travelling back with the team after a defeat in El Classico, the youngster flew to Milan. And while nursing a groin injury, Lamine filmed commercials
These incidents are just a drop in what had become a lake of behaviour that might be considered problematic.
And for a manager like Flick, who stresses on strict discipline and mental focus, things seem to have gone past just discipline, as all this might have been the reason behind Lamine Yamal’s recent drop in performance.
However, it must be noted that there is nothing concrete about this report as of now. While Hansi Flick’s displeasure might be clear as day, it is not known for certain whether he wants to leave Barcelona at the end of this season, especially seeing that he came into the club with a three-season plan.
