Tess Daly made disastrous mistake quitting Strictly - and Claudia's success will prove it

When Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman handed in their joint notice to Strictly Come Dancing bosses last month, the nation waited with bated breath for more news. What reason would Tess - who had presented the show for 21 years - and Claudia - who took over from Bruce Forsyth in 2010 - have to give up on the show that made them both household names?

Claudia, of course, has The Traitors and its successful celebrity spin-off to distract her. The competition series has already landed her a BAFTA award in 2023, and spawned numerous other game shows trying to mimic her impressive hosting style (Rob Rinder on The Inheritance, anyone?) She's also alleged to be in talks to host her own chat show, with Deadline reporting that the company behind The Graham Norton Show are in talks to see her mingle with some massive A-listers.

But Tess? Since leaving her modelling days behind, Tess has been synonymous with Strictly. Aside from a few stints on Loose Women, she barely has any TV credits to her name from the last few years that aren't connected to the dance show in some way.

Tess has served the nation in her role, even being awarded an MBE for services to broadcasting.

However, I'm not entirely sure what she can do next.

It's doubtful she'd go up against Claudia and launch her own chat show format. She could try a reality show with her famous hubby Vernon Kay, a la Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, but in all honesty I'm not sure how many people would tune in to watch.

The truth is, Tess is so suited to Strictly that not only will it be hard to replace her, it will be difficult for her to find a suitable replacement in the spotlight.

Sadly, I imagine there are a few short-lived game show stints until she perhaps follows Vernon into the I'm A Celeb jungle next year.
