Joe Marler, the star of Celebrity Traitors, was recently seen enjoying a holiday in the heart of London. The rugby player was spotted soaking up the sun and building sandcastles on the streets of Shoreditch. It comes after a study of 2,000 working adults revealed that 76% crave a sunny holiday due to a lack of sunlight. Full-time workers reportedly only experience an average of one-and-a-half hours of daylight per week during the winter months.

Over a third of those surveyed leave their homes before 7am and return after 6pm. As a result of shorter days, 58% confess they often commute to work in darkness and leave when it's still dark.

The research, commissioned by loveholidays, found that 56% believe they go without seeing any daylight for four days. This results in 24% feeling down, 19% feeling frustrated, and 54% claiming it reduces their energy levels.

Joe Marler said: "When it gets dark, it's easy to feel down, but it's only for a few months a year. I'm excited to be teaming up with loveholidays to go on a mini-break in their billboard, to show people there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and the sun is never far away."

The study discovered that 81% feel happier in the summer due to more sunlight outside of their working hours. Ideally, they would want three hours worth of daylight to enjoy in their free time, with a quarter feeling lethargic during the winter and 14% feeling tired.

This means 37% feel like they need a holiday most during this time. Escaping the cold weather is a desire for 42% of people, while boosting their mood is another reason to get away. The mere thought of holiday plans lifts the spirits of 68%.

According to OnePoll statistics, a whopping 76% believe that a winter getaway will have a positive effect on their mental wellbeing.

Joe added: "It's natural to feel happier in the sun, everyone seems to be in a better mood during the summer months.

"Sluggish is a great way of describing the feeling of waking up on a cold, dark and bleak day. Holidays can be a great way to fight the winter blues and see a sky full of sun instead."
