An old house housing a fabric shop on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street was undergoing renovations when it was flooded. The owner had to lock the door and wait for the interior to dry before resuming construction.

Hoi An is home to 1,155 relics. A preliminary inspection by the People’s Committee of Hoi An Ward found 30 old houses in disrepair, including 9 that are severely damaged and 14 relics that are slightly degraded.

Some of the deterioration occurred in areas affected by flooding.

Vo Dang Phong, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoi An Ward, said while relics naturally age over time, natural disasters have significantly accelerated this process.
