Akshaye Khanna’s character in Dhurandhar helmed by Aditya Dhar immediately caught attention for its calm yet threatening presence. His controlled expressions and quiet rage suggested a man shaped by a violent past. Many viewers quickly realised that the role wasn’t entirely fictional. It drew inspiration from a real-life figure whose story was far more disturbing than anything shown on screen. The curiosity around the film naturally led people toward one question: Who was the real man behind this chilling character? Who Was the Real Rehman Baloch? Rehman Baloch known widely as Rehman Dakait was one of Pakistan’s most notorious gang lords. He ruled the streets of Lyari through terror political reach and a tightly controlled criminal empire. Born to a drug-smuggling father and a mother named Khadija Bibi he grew up surrounded by the underworld long before he became part of it. One incident from his youth sealed his reputation early. At the age of 19 he reportedly strangled his mother and then hung her from a ceiling fan. Versions of the event differ but its brutality became one of the darkest chapters attached to his name. The reign of Rehman Dakait Rehman formally stepped into Lyari’s gang structure in the late 1990s when he joined the Haji Lalu gang. After Lalu’s arrest in 2001 Rehman took control and quickly expanded his influence across the area. He later ruled Lyari alongside his cousin Uzair Baloch and his feared associate Baba Ladla. Together they oversaw extortion drug routes kidnappings and illegal arms markets. Some accounts even claim that severed heads of rivals were used to intimidate opponents with gang members playing football with them under Rehman’s orders. His rise did not remain limited to crime. He became deeply connected with politics as well. Photographs showed him standing close to influential political figures suggesting how strongly he had embedded himself into Lyari’s political vacuum. Many locals believed that when political attention drifted away from Lyari men like Rehman stepped in and filled the gap with fear instead of governance. The end of Rehman Dakait Rehman’s rule finally ended in August 2009 when he was killed in an encounter by Karachi police. However questions remain about the circumstances. Reports suggested he was shot at extremely close range raising doubts about whether it was a real encounter or a targeted killing. Even after his death many said they never truly understood what happened or who wanted him eliminated. Even after his death the effect of Rehman’s rule stayed alive in Lyari. His network influence and the culture of violence he built continued to shape the area for years. With Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal in Dhurandhar his story has once again resurfaced this time for audiences far beyond Pakistan.
