New Delhi: A big and relief news has come out for the people living in Delhi and thousands of taxi drivers. A new government taxi service is going to be started soon in the capital, which will not only make the travel of passengers cheap and convenient, but will also help in increasing the income of the drivers. On the initiative of the Ministry of Cooperation of the Central Government, this service under the name ‘Bharat Taxi’ will be started in Delhi from January 1, 2026.
From the first day of the new year i.e. 1 January 2026, Delhiites will be able to book rides easily by downloading Bharat Taxi App on their mobile phones. The aim of the government is to make transportation in the major cities of the country more convenient, safe and economical through this service. After Delhi, this service will also be started in Rajkot, Gujarat, after which there are plans to implement it in other cities in a phased manner.
The entry of Bharat Taxi is likely to provide a direct challenge to private taxi aggregator companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido. While private companies are often in the news due to high fares and heavy commission, Bharat Taxi is being introduced with low fares and transparent system. This will provide a reliable and cheap option to the passengers.
Bharat Taxi has been specially designed in such a way that passengers can get better service at lower fares. Along with this, special attention has also been given to the earnings of drivers. Unlike private companies, where drivers are charged hefty commissions, drivers in Bharat Taxi will get more than 80 percent of their earnings directly.
About 20 percent of the remaining amount will be used on service operations, technical improvements and welfare of drivers. This will provide financial security to the drivers and they will be able to work without pressure.
Tremendous enthusiasm is also being seen among the drivers regarding Bharat Taxi in Delhi. Till now, more than 56,000 drivers in the capital have registered themselves for this service. It is clear that drivers are considering this model beneficial for themselves.
A major feature of Bharat Taxi is that not only car but also auto and bike taxi options will be available. With this, passengers traveling on short journeys will also get cheaper and faster facilities. At present, the trial of this service has been done in Delhi and Rajkot, which has received positive response.
Government monitored Bharat Taxi service will not only bring transparency in fares, but will also make the urban transport system more organized. This initiative can prove to be a win-win deal for passengers, drivers and the government. In the coming times, Bharat Taxi can play an important role in changing the picture of urban transportation.
