Furious customers have vowed to boycott a Morrisons supermarket after the removal of its Christmas displays. The holiday decorations near the tills at the Atlas Mill branch in Bolton, Greater Manchester, were taken down over the weekend.

Residents claim the move followed complaints that the displays were "offensive", although Morrisons has not verified this. The decision triggered outrage online, with several shoppers pledging to shun the store. The supermarket subsequently restored the decorations, attributing the incident to a "miscommunication".

Nevertheless, the episode has left many fuming.

One social media user posted: "Why do people think Christmas decorations will upset anyone?"

Another commented: "I thought Morrisons was a British store".

A further remark stated: "Whatever the miscommunication was, the decorations should have stayed up.

"This country helps celebrate all religions. At this time of year, we should all embrace."

Many voiced frustration and called for a boycott of the chain.

One said: "This boils my blood. It's Britain, we celebrate Christmas."

Another declared: "Won't be shopping at Morrisons or any supermarket that doesn't support Christmas."

Local Cllr Susan Priest commented: "Bolton is a multi-faith place. We celebrate it all.

"I want to see seasonal decorations going up for all of the different celebrations throughout the year, including Christmas.

"That's what makes Bolton a great place."

"I think it's probably been blown out of proportion, to be honest."

In a statement Morrisons said: "We have Christmas decorations up at our Atlas Mill store to help make our customers and colleagues feel festive at this special time of year.

"Following a miscommunication some were removed, however they have been reinstated and the store and our colleagues are excited to continue to help our customers celebrate Christmas."

The spokesperson also said they are "looking into" the miscommunication and said they would not be providing "any further comment" at this time.
