As the biggest rock star of his era, Elvis Presley was extremely wealthy, but he didn't hold onto his money for long.

The King would famously buy cars, jewellery, and houses for his friends, family, and even random members of the public.

The star, who died in 1977, was so generous he was nicked Santa when Christmas came around.

Now his old flame Linda Thompson, who lived with him at Graceland during the early 70s, has shared a collage of couple photos on her Instagram and praised his generosity.

The 75-year-old former Miss Tennessee model captioned her festive post: "Flashback Friday... this time of year is nostalgic and sentimental. Christmas was Elvis's favourite time of year because he truly embodied the spirit of Santa Claus. He found it more blessed to give than to receive, and was the most extraordinarily generous person I have ever known. As we celebrate this sacred and beautiful Christmas season, may our memories remain cherished and warm our hearts now and always. Blue or White or Sunny & Bright...Merry Christmas to all!"
