New Delhi: Star India batter Wasim Jaffer has raised concerns over the selectors decision to leave out opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma from the T20 World Cup squad. Sharing his views on X (formerly Twitter) Jaffer said he was shocked by the choices made by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee. He felt that Jaiswal and Jitesh could have been picked instead of all-rounder Washington Sundar and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.
Jaffer noted that Kishans selection came as a surprise
Jaffer also noted that Kishans selection came as a surprise despite his strong performances for Jharkhand in their recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title-winning run.
Why not Jaiswal & Jitesh? I would have them in place of Ishan & Washi. Axar is VC so hes sure to play and you cant play Washi ahead of Varun and Kuldeep. Jitesh hasnt done anything wrong to be dropped and Yashasvi dont need any explaining why he shouldnt be there in the first place Jaffer posted on his X handle.

Sundar was included in the squad for Indias recent T20I series victory against South Africa but got an opportunity to play only the series decider in Ahmedabad. He is among the four spinners named in Indias 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to begin on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
Yashasvi hasnt been part of Indias T20I squad since 2024
Jitesh on the other hand played the entire five-match series against the Proteas and scored 37 runs across two innings. Jaiswal meanwhile was part of Indias T20 World Cup-winning side in 2024 but since then he hasnt been picked in the T20I side following the emergence of Abhishek Sharma.
Kishan who made his comeback took a break from the teams tour of South Africa citing mental fatigue towards the end of 2023. However because he did not feature in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy he was removed from the BCCIs central contract list before working his way back.
